Year: 2015 Location: London, UK
Bringing technology into the world of classical music, in collaboration with The Sacconi Quartet. HEARTFELT is fully immersive performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet in A minor, Op. 132 that combines sound, light and touch. As the musicians play, cardiac sensors transmit their real-time heartbeats into robotic hearts held in the hands of the audience.
Background
Forty small bespoke wooden chestahedron were made, each containing a wireless receiver and a custom voice coil actuator. Each receiving heartbeat data in real time from a member of the Quartet as they play their set. The voice coil then gently beats to the rhythm of the musician’s heart, allowing the audience to connect with the musicians as they perform.
